Recommended TOURIST LOCATIONS/SPOTS

Abbey Falls:


  • 10kms from Madikeri
  • Located between private coffee plantations.
  • Need to climb down the steps from the parking area
  • Hanging bridge is constructed opposite to this waterfall that allows you to see the falls right in the front
  • Be careful of leeches in the ground
  • Not recommended for senior citizen having heart, lungs problems or leg injury

Dubare Elephant Camp:


  • Located in Kushal Nagar
  • Elephants are getting trained here for Dussehra festival
  • Activities like Elephant ride, river rafting, Elephant bath (9am to 10am)
  • Opening time 8.30-11am, 4.30 pm - 5.30pm

Edakkal Caves:


  • Edakkal - Two natural caves - located 1,200 m above the sea level
  • 45-60 mins trek takes to the top - the climb is quite steep so it’s not recommended for asthma patients & cardiac patients
  • Not recommended during rain as the rocks turn to be slippery
  • pictorial paintings of 6000 BC can be spotted inside the caves

Namdroling Monastery :


  • Located in Kushal Nagar
  • Popularly known as the 'Golden Temple opened in 1963
  • largest teaching center of the school of Tibetan Buddhism
  • TashiLhunpo Monastery is 20 mins walk from here
  • Tibetan restaurants are available along the roadside near the Monastery
  • Timings: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Raja's Seat :


  • Located 1.5kms from Madikeri town
  • one of the best place in Coorg to watch the sunrise and sunset
  • Well Maintained garden and Musical fountain are the main attractions here. Music fountain shows are available in the evening after 6pm
  • Timing: 6am to 8pm

Tadiandamol Trek:


  • Highest peak in Coorg
  • Nalknad Palace(41kms from Madikeri town) is at the base of Tadiandamol peak and from there you can reach till forest gate(start point) in a jeep
  • You need to trek 3.5kms to reach the top of the peak
  • Consumption of alcohol, cigarettes are strictly prohibited here
  • Recommended to carry a bottle of water, cap, sun lotion, backpack,torch

Iruppu Waterfalls:


  • Located 48 km from Virajpet on the highway to Nagarhole
  • Also known as LakshmanaTirtha Falls which is derived from the name of the tributary of Cauvery
  • You can enjoy the bath in these waterfalls.
  • Rameshwara Temple is located near to the waterfalls is the other main attraction
  • Timing: 6am to 6pm, Entry fees and Parking fees are applicable

Coffee Plantation Visit(Mercara Gold Estate):


  • Mercara Gold Estate - 8kms from Madikeri town
  • 30 mins of the tour takes us through a coffee plantation, a variety of spices like cardamom, cinnamon, kachampuli, etc.
  • Tour fees are applicable - 200 per adult (Last updated July 2019)
  • Timing: 9am-6pm

TalaKaveri Temple:


  • it is referred to as Talakaveri because a small spring of water originates from this place which is considered as a source of Kaveri
  • 56kms from Madikeri town
  • The water here is supposed to have healing and miraculous powers, So thousands of pilgrims visit the place during this time to take a holy dip
  • into the water and purify their souls during so during Tula Sankaramana festival
  • Timing: 6:00 AM to 8:30 PM

Omkareshwara Temple:


  • Built-in 18th century and it's dedicated to Lord Shiva
  • located in Madikeri town
  • It has a central dome with four minarets that surround its four corners which reflects a mix of Gothic and Islamic styles of architecture.
  • Well maintained water tank is the another main attraction
  • Timing: 6:30 AM - 12:00 PM & 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM & No Entry fee

TIPS & ADVISES

  • If you are planning for a one-day trip to Coorg it’s a big NO, because you cannot explore it just for one day.
  • You can buy verities of coffee powder,Wine, Homemade chocolates from Kodagu Coffee Growers Co-Operative Society Ltd (Location: Raja Seat Road, Near Town Hall,
  • Carrying an umbrella is recommended since you can expect rain at any time.
  • Rafting is available during monsoon (June to September).
  • If you are here for trekking carrying a leech protection and pair of shoes is mandatory.
  • Madikeri Fort now houses government offices, so you can skip this place
  • Abbey Falls is not recommended for senior citizen having heart, lungs problems or leg injury
  • Be careful near waterfalls since it will be slippery especially during monsoons.
  • Please be aware that reaching a few peaks Jeeps are mandatory, Charges are a bit expensive.
