Recommended TOURIST LOCATIONS/SPOTS

Pillar Rocks Viewpoint &Guna Caves:


  • Set 3 giant pillars standing 400 feet high shoulder to shoulder - chambers between these massive rocks are called the Devil's Kitchen.
  • Public garden is another main attraction
  • Guna cave can be seen from outside only as the entry to the cave is closed
  • Visiting time:9am to 4 pm

Kodaikanal Lake:


  • Star-shaped Man-made lake which was built by Madurai collector Vere Henry Levinge in 1863 - Avg depth of the lake is 3m
  • Boating, Cycling around the lake and horse riding are the main attractions
  • Boating timing: 6am to 5pm
  • 3kms from Kodaikanal bus stand

Bryant park:


  • Botanical garden which spreads over 20.5 acres
  • Glasshouse within the park hosts different varieties of plants especially cacti and orchids
  • Rose garden is also another main attraction- More than 700 species of roses
  • Horticultural Show and flower show happen every summer (May)
  • Visiting timing: 9am to 6 pm& Entry fee is less than 50
  • Walkable distance from Coakers Walk and Kodaikanal Lake

Coakers walk:


  • Around 1 km walk to enjoy the landscape of Kodaikanal
  • Telescopic Viewpoints are available here to view the scenic beauty of the valley
  • Food stalls are available here
  • Visiting timing: 7am to 7pm 7 Entry fee is less than 10 Rs
  • Walkable distance from Bryant Park and Kodaikanal Lake

Pine tree forest:


  • Pine plantation was done in 1906 by Mr. Bryant
  • Perfect spot for photography and long walks - it's also famous for Shooting location for many Movie Songs
  • Forrest is Surrounded by a vegetation of mushrooms popularly known as the magic mushrooms
  • Beware of monkeys as they may snatch away your eatables
  • Visiting timing: 10am to 6pm & No entry fee

Vattakanal waterfalls:


  • It's surrounded by hills & forest bustling with flora and fauna
  • Needs to be careful while climbing as the rocks are slippery
  • Bridge near the falls is the perfect spot for taking Selfies
  • 2kms Trek along this waterfall will take you to Lion's cave and 3 waterfalls
  • 5kms from Kodaikanal bus stand

KurunjiAndavar temple:


  • Dedicated to Lord Murugan (son of Lord Shiva)
  • Palani hills can be seen from this temple
  • NeelaKurinji blooms in every 12 years here - Now it’s bloomed in 2018
  • Visiting timing: 7am to 7pm
  • 3kms from Kodaikanal bus stand

Dolphin nose:


  • It’s a huge rock which resembles Dolphins nose and it is approximately 2,000 meters deep
  • Around 1.5km trek from the parking area(entry point) takes you to this spot
  • Trekking is not recommended for asthma patients & cardiac patients as the climb is quite steep
  • Echo Rock is just 10-15 mins walk after Dolphin nose point
  • Refresh points are available
  • Recommended to wear Hard grip shoes as the trek is quite steep
  • Consumption of alcohol is strictly prohibited here
  • 8kms from Kodaikanal Bus stand
  • Visiting timing: 6am to 5pm

TIPS & ADVISES

  • Guna cave can be seen from outside only as the entry to the cave is closed for many years
  • Recommended to stay near Coaker’s walk as it is more accessible to most of the tourist destinations
  • Magic Mushrooms are not legal in India as they contain Psilocin – a mood-altering substance
  • NeelaKurinjican be seen in KurunjiAndavar templewhich blooms in every 12 years - Now it’s bloomed in 2018 -
  • Recommended to carry Mosquito/insect repellents, Sunscreen lotion, and wear shoes while trekking.
  • Not recommended to carry liquor in the vehicle since checking is very often in border check post
  • Trekking near Dolphin nose point is not recommended for asthma patients & cardiac patients as the climb is quite steep
