Chempara Peak :
Highest peak in Wayanad - located near Meppadi
Permission needs to be taken from Meppady forest office for trekking
3hrs of trek takes to the top of the peak
Heart-shaped lake on the peak is the main attraction
Not recommended to trek during the rainy season
Banasura Sagar Dam :
largest earthen dam in India - located 21 km from Kalpetta
Bus and Jeep is available to take you to the top of the dam
Activities like kayaking, speed boating can be explored here
Timings: 6am to 6pm
Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary :
It’s an animal sanctuary which spread over 345 sqkm - located 13kms km from Sultan Bathery
Jeep safari is available - Elephant, deer, tiger, Indian bison monkeys, wild dogs can be seen here
Timings: 7am - 10am and 3pm – 4.30pm.
Coffee and tea plantations are the other main attractions
Recommended to carry Mosquito/insect repellents and wear shoes
Pookode Lake:
Natural freshwater lake which spreads over 13 acres and is 40 m deep which is located 15kms from Kalpetta
Pookode Lake is the smallest highest altitude freshwater lake in Kerala
Bluewater lily flowers&blue lotus are the main attractions of this lake
Boating facilities are available here

TIPS & ADVISES
Recommended to stay in Kalpetta as it is more accessible to most of the tourist destinations
Road (NH 766)passing through Bandipur National Park which connectsMysore to Kozhikode is closed between 9pm -6am & It's closed for 2 wheelers from 6pm - 6am
Bengaluru-Mysuru-Gonikoppal-Mananthavady is the alternate route to reach Wayanad from Mysore if you are traveling in the night
Not recommended to carry liquor since checking is very often in border check post
only 3 beverage outlets can be found in Wayanad - No self-help counters - one may have to stand in queue to buy the liquor
Hot drinks(liquor) are available only from 3-star hotels to 5-star hotels
Because of poor network connection, online maps are not reliable in some places, so its recommended to have a travel guide along with you.
Not recommended to visit Wayanad in monsoon season since most of the tourist spots will be closed during this time.
